For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to make my own wedding invitations. Because I enjoy making block prints, I thought I would do that for all 150 invitations. Well, needless to say, it took a lot longer than I thought, but it was worth it. The first page, the official invitation was hand carved then hand pressed (I don’t have a press). The rest were computer printed (which probably cost more money because of the printer ink). I was pretty happy with how they turned out, but I seem to remember plenty of choice words coming out of my mouth while I was making it.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-1005" title="Handmade Wedding Invitations - Matthew R.
Here you can see our wedding rings on top of the wood linoleum block I carved. I was cheap and put the red on one side and the blue on the other.

A big thanks to our photographer who actually remembered to take a photo of our wedding invitation.

The project that I am working on for Gould Evans of Kansas City has been officially announced.

From the Kansas City Star:
“Cerner Corp. will build two stainless-steel and glass office towers for the 4,000 new employees it’s bringing to western Wyandotte County, a project that is being hailed as an “iconic” gateway to the community.

The complex, to be built over the next four years for the fast-growing health care technology firm, was the prize offered state and local officials last year in return for their support of a $414 million development deal that included the new Livestrong Sporting Park.

Construction on the first nine-story building is expected to begin within six months, and the entire 660,000-square-foot development is to be completed by mid-2015.

The buildings’ exterior design is based on a digitalized image of human DNA. Since its founding in 1979, the firm based in North Kansas City has grown to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of health care technology.”

Link

Edit: It seems that KC Star has taken that article down… another link is HERE.

I also need everyone’s help. I have noticed that the masthead on my website is not displaying properly on some computers. I think it is an error caused by Norton Antivirus. So if you notice that the opening image is being displayed on top of the title (It should have an image at the top that says Matthew R. Pauly: Architecture, Design, Fun); please let me know. If this error occurs to you email me what browser you are using and if you use Norton Antivirus toolbar.

This is a page where I update with random images and renderings that never make it out of the design process, but I still love. Some of the greatest designs and images ever made in architecture will never be seen outside offices.

It is as an option for a competition we entered. We didn’t pursue this option (for obvious reasons, such as it being a 60 ft tall fish tank).

This was a facade study for a university in Korea. Eventually a more “classical” facade was pursued. It was fun using the University of Kansas Trajan for the logo, as the University’s abbreviation is the same.
